Renaissance Italy was an amazing place, producing a host of great rulers, writers, soldiers, thinkers and artists. Although he had many gifts, he is chiefly remembered as an artist, and every year many thousands of visitors go to look at the Mona Lisa and other Leonardo paintings in museums and galleries.
